Tow Sar Bing has a high demand especially on the first and fifteenth day of every lunar month in the Chinese calendar. It is also popularly being offered during prayers to the God of Prosperity or “Tua Pek Kong”.
Finely ground mung beans with sprinkles of deep fried onions form the delicious fillings of Tow Sar Bing while the fluffy outer layers are made from wheat flour. Tow Sar Bing requires double baking in order to achieve an even spread of crustiness and fragrant. The added sesame seed as toppings provide a mouth-watering feel and aroma for the consumer.
As the fillings are a little moist, it is highly recommended Tow Sar Bing is consumed immediately….within two to three days. However, to prolong its shelf life, it should be stored in the freezer. Thaw for 20 minutes and heat up in electric oven at 180oC before eating. If not stored in freezer, the fillings will become dry and thus, compromising on the taste and texture. It may also turn moldy.
